AI recruiting tools compared
Updated 26 August 2026
Most AI recruiting tools solve one part of the funnel. The fastest way to choose is to name your bottleneck first — sourcing, screening, scheduling or evaluation — and pick the tool built for it. Here is where the main options sit, including where Alphie fits and where it does not.
| Tool | Category | Strongest at | Typical buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alphie Recruiter | ATS-native AI recruiting assistant | Rediscovering ATS candidates, 15-min AI voice screening, scheduling, drafted candidate replies | Startups and small-to-mid teams on Greenhouse, Ashby or BambooHR |
| Paradox (Olivia) | Conversational engagement | High-volume hourly apply and self-scheduling | Retail, logistics, healthcare shift work |
| HireVue | Video interviewing and assessment | Standardised recorded interviews and validated assessments | Enterprises with high applicant volume |
| Eightfold AI | Talent intelligence | Skills inference, talent pools, internal mobility | Enterprises |
| HireEZ | Sourcing and outreach | Searching external profiles, contact enrichment, sequences | Recruiting teams doing outbound |
| SeekOut | Sourcing and analytics | Skills-based search and diversity sourcing | Talent acquisition teams |
| Metaview / BrightHire | Interview intelligence | Recording, transcribing and summarising human interviews | Teams standardising evaluation |
| GoodTime | Scheduling | Complex multi-interviewer calendar coordination | Mid-market and enterprise TA ops |
| Greenhouse / Ashby / Lever / Workable | ATS with embedded AI | System of record, workflow, some AI scoring | Almost every hiring team |
Sourcing: HireEZ, SeekOut, Eightfold — or your own ATS
Outbound sourcing tools search external profile databases. That is the right answer when you need people who have never heard of you. It is the wrong first move if you already have thousands of past applicants sitting unused in your ATS — that pool is warmer, cheaper and already opted in. Alphie works that pool first: it rediscovers and ranks candidates you already have, with the reasoning shown for each recommendation.
Screening: HireVue, assessments — or a live voice interview
Recorded video answers and skills tests scale well but feel like a form. Alphie's screen is a live 15-minute voice interview conducted like a senior recruiter would, and it produces a question-by-question report with a recording attached to the candidate in your ATS. Alphie never auto-rejects: it recommends, and a human decides.
Scheduling and replies: GoodTime, Paradox — or bundled
Scheduling tools are excellent at calendar Tetris but do not decide who to schedule. Alphie schedules as part of the same workflow that produced the recommendation, and drafts the approval or rejection email citing the interview evidence, so nobody gets ghosted.
The stack question
Enterprises typically run an ATS plus sourcing plus engagement plus interview intelligence. Smaller teams cannot staff that. The alternative is one assistant that works inside the ATS you already pay for and covers rediscovery, screening, scheduling and replies — which is what Alphie is. It is not an ATS, not a job board and not a sourcing database, and it does not try to be.
How to choose
- Name the single biggest bottleneck before shortlisting anything.
- Check the tool works with your ATS rather than asking you to migrate.
- Ask where candidate data is processed and stored, and whether a DPA is on offer.
- Insist on visible reasoning behind any score — a number with no explanation is unusable in a hiring debrief.
- Confirm no automated rejection happens without a human in the loop.
